The introduction of partners and our 1st eccentric

This was the tour where partners started to join in, until now only Lucy had joined previous walks. Or this walk Saz, Iain, Jackie and Helen all came along for the 1st time. Penny and Libby also made 1st tour appearances. We had an international flavour with our 1st Australian (Lisa) and we gained our 1st true eccentric in Jonno. A ‘friend’ of Rachel’s he turned up in shorts and wanted to walk in shorts (despite the freezing weather)

The walk was spectacular, we reached the top of Corn Du (2864ft) in heavy snow and very strong winds. The top was almost impossible to stand up on and having got trapped behind a saga party just on the brink most of the party decided to lay down and enjoy the views. Chaos on top with Cookie getting blown 10 ft every time he stood up, the Saga party losing a member and a blizzard starting.

We turned back, practically dragging Helen off the top. The 1st few hundred metres down was total whiteout. Why can’t all walks be this exciting?

Penpont proved a great place to stay, log fires for Cookie and cosy living room and kitchens. This tour also marked the introduction of Fossie’s game and Lisa’s impersonation of Winnie the Poo.
