An exhilarating days walking on Pumlumon.

The weather was awful when we woke up so we planned a later start to avoid the lashing rain. The plan worked in terms of avoiding rain, but this has to be in the top three windiest walks we’ve ever done.

We ascended the South Ridge, which would normally be an easy ascent. Today the wind was ferocious, knocking us sideways as times. We ducked below the ridge line where possible, but on exposed stretches it was hard going.

At least the cloud cleared from the top of Pumlumon Fawr as we approached. The wind if anything strengthened though, requiring an undignified crawl over wet rocks to reach the trig point. You had to hold onto the trig point for the obligatory photo.

A stone shelter gave some break from the winds and allowed us to take in the views across to the coast north west of us.  We carried on along the ridge taking in the source of both Wye and Seven Rivers and reaching the top of Pumlumon Arwystli before heading back into the wind and the down via Pen Lluest-y-carn.

From there we shouldered across the the old miners path for the way out past impressive old mine workings.  Great days walking with some lovely windburn to show for our efforts.
