After the success of the previous year we decided to return to Snowdonia, although this time its southern mountains. We based ourselves in Dolgellau. Arriving before we could check in we decided to stretch our walks by doing the circular Precipice Walk slightly to the north of Dolgellau. Despite it’s name Dave reassuered Peter that it wasn’t too exposed and offered fab views. One of those statements was true. It did offer fab views, but in places & despite not being very high, it was enough to get the pulse racing a bit.

Fab views over the Afon Mawddach were enough though to make this a memorable and enjoyable couple of hours, including the stroll back alongside Llyn Cynwch. We got back to our accommodation to find it still hadn’t been cleaned, and while a phone call established that cleaners were on their way, it encouraged us to make an early dash to the pub. Probably a mistake as we were still there several hours later.

Day 2 saw us climbing Cadair Idris. A relative rarity on a Tav’s Tours as we deployed a two car strategy which allowed us to climb Cadair from the Minffordd side. This is a steep and lung busting pull up to Lyn Cau, before following the ridge around the Lyn and reaching the summit via Craig Cau. We had fabulous views on the climb up, but the cloud was shrouding the very top.

We headed down the Pony Path before diverting along the ridge of Carnedd Lwyd and Craig Las before a steep descent to the second car at Llynnau Cregennen. A fantastically rewarding days walking. After all that effort more food was required. Not impressed by the Indian Option (cash only and bring you own booze) we found a great Tapas restaurant and enjoyed a very good Paella.
